GET DOWN TO DIRT SERIES: TARRAH & NATHAN

Last fall John Deere presented five small-farm owners a tractor to use for 10 weeks. Each of them were loaned a John Deere 3E Compact Utility Tractor or 5E Series Utility Tractor. In exchange, while they were working, thye were asked to film what life was like on their farm for just a few minutes each day. Some had never owned a tractor. Others usually borrowed a tractor from a neighbor to use when needed, and some of them already had a few pieces of their own equipment. These are their stories about their experiences with using the tractor.

Tarrah and Nathan’s passion for protecting the environment is one reason why they started to pasture-raise livestock and organically grow vegetables for their CSA customers. Most of the work is done on their 50-acre property known as Green Being Farm and they rent an additional 30 acres where they grow vegetables and raise pastured pork and chicken, and grass-fed lamb and beef.

Tarrah works full-time on their farm and Nathan is a full-time animator who also works on the farm in his spare time. Together they pasture-raise livestock and grow and sell organic vegetables.
