ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE

ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE

Friday morning, I parked my car next to dozens of farm trucks with a few cars and SUVs mixed in. I walked up to a barn that just a few hours prior held various pieces of farming equipment. It had been cleared out and was the meeting place for over 100 men and women from across the Wiregrass area.
Late Wednesday night, a post was published on Facebook inviting any and all prayer warriors in the area to join together Friday at 7:30am at Parker Farms in Headland, AL. This farmer’s daughter’s post was shared over 145 times in just 34 hours. Isn’t it amazing how technology can be so helpful and powerful when we need it to?
While the pastors listed in her post to speak were Brother Norman Simmons and Brother Rickey Sowell, these men weren’t the only ones to offer up a prayer. I watched as these farmers bowed their heads and humbly and fervently asked God to bless their crops. For God to send rain down to our thirsty and dry grounds. Seeds have gone in the ground, but they are waiting for that fresh drink of water.
Alabama, and Southeast Alabama, in particular, is experiencing a drought and farmers say the last three weeks have not been good for their crops. Local news station WDHN reported: “As of May 28, 2019--36.4% of the state of Alabama is abnormally dry for this time of year. 7.4% of the state is in a Moderate Drought and that includes Houston, Dale, Henry, Eastern Geneva, Southern Pike & Barbour counties.”
Standing in that barn Friday morning, listening to grown men cry and pray for help- but yet giving Him all the praise and glory at the same time, was something that I will never forget. These aren’t just crops or seeds... this is their livelihoods. This is their passion. Farming is in their blood. Generations of men came before them so that they could pass it down to their sons.
To say that this was a humbling experience is an understatement. I have a new appreciation for our farmers and the work they do to feed and clothe us.
This weekend we are expected to receive several days of rain. While some may say it will ruin their weekend plans, farmers in the Wiregrass are once again praising God.
